Night Out at the Urban Wildlife - 28DEC03

Tonight I decided to run out with Sasha and see Martin's band, Cognition, perform at the Urban Wildlife (downtown, near Warehouse District). Intendo opened before them, and the headliner seemed to be Wormwood. I got as many pictures as I could but unfortunately my stupid batteries ran out and I had to wait for the camera to charge up a little each time just to sneak in another shot. After a while even this was impossible.

While waiting for the bus, I decided to get a shot of Sasha's dreds, hind-view. A more action-shot filter, because Sasha was afraid too much scalp was being highlighted.
Martin and (drummer) and Sasha mill about restlessly before the show. And there's Brock, hopped-up on ephedra and hoping for the best!
Intendo starts out, jamming away. Shutter-drag always makes the action look bigger than it is. Intendo's shy and reclusive bassist, just kinda standing off to one side, unobtrusively plucking out notes.
No one ever takes shots of the drummer, so I got a shot of the drummer. You guessed it: funnyman Bruce Villanch on drums.
Action! Wall of noise! So much going on! Losing consciousness! Guitarist and lead vocals... I didn't catch anyone's names, sorry.
The tall drink o' water on lead guitar. Close-up of his fretwork (not dissimilar to the other guy's).
More frenzied violence and activity hopping around on stage! Craftsmen bent over their guitars in a moment of contemplation.
There's that shy, reclusive bassist again. He doesn't like attention. Sasha gives Martin a pep-talk before the show.
Oh hey! It's Sarah! Sarah's cool! Hi, Sarah! Hi. This is where the magic happens, the stage is set for dreams to come true.
Martin untangles some cords, all the better to tangle up some chords. Brock likewise sets up his equipment.
My beer, before some track lighting at the edge of the bar. Same shot, longer exposure in the shutter-drag.
Once again, what kind of sorry-ass gang must you be in that the only territory you can claim is a bathroom? Martin takes the stage, gladhands the audience and warms them up to be rocked the fuck out.
...Okay, I need to lose the shutter-drag, you just can't see anything here. "Did you hear the one about the two Palestinian women waiting at the bus stop?"
Yes, now they're ready to rock. They weren't so sure before, but as of now, rocking commences. 30 seconds into the second song and no broken strings: so far, so good!
A very blurry Brock picks and grins his way into the audience's hearts. Brock is cursed with blurriness this evening. The camera refuses to focus on him.
The drummer reviews his notes: "Bang bang bang bang, thump thump thump thump. Okay, got it." The band shares a lighter moment in between turbid social discontent.
Nice clear shot of Brock, but for the microphone in his eye. The camera does not like Brock. With rap so smooth and sounds so sweet, jammin' the airwaves and rockin' the beat.
Martin at once personifies not-gonna-take-it-anymore urban frustration and an almost doll-like insouciance. Brock leaps into the fore and tricks the camera into taking a decent shot!
And now the headliners, Wormwood. A lot of people came out to see them, too, they're no joke. The lead singer also does this writhy kind of dance, as did at least one member of the audience who was way into them.
