Lyndale/Uptown - 24MAR04

I decided I needed some exercise and went out for a walk around Uptown. I think I'll do this regularly. I brought my regular camera but I haven't used my phonecam in a while so I thought I'd give that a shot. I lost a couple pictures, transmission to email is kinda difficult if I'm not paying attention, but I had fun and will do this at least twice more.

Test picture, wanted to see how the light balance would work.

Grainy shot of traffic, looking south on Lyndale towards 25th St.

Art studio that is not open to the public, as the sign on the door stresses.

Spotlight shining on sidewalk, glimpse of my boot.

Moxie studio next to Bob's Java Hut, a coffee shop specifically for motorcycle riders and people who want to be seen with motorcycle riders. Above is Uptown Tattoo.

All-hours laundrette. Excellent lighting makes for a crisp picture.

Sunny-Side Up Cafe: creative breakfast reinventions, extremely casual staff, no-frills environment. You go there to eat and mind your own business, it's great.

I had no idea that soccer was so popular around here that it could merit its own high-end retail outlet in the middle of Uptown.

New mystical shop, along the lines of Magus Books and Stonehenge.

Tropical plant and supply shop.

Oh, that's Sherman Electric. Owned by the father of the lead singer of the band of the same name.

Salem Lutheran Church, with jazz mass. I'll go out on a limb and say this isn't perhaps a traditional Norwegian congregation.

Another Lyndale body shop, who knows which one. Right across from the church.

Classic auto restoration garage. I took this picture as a bunch of teens on a field trip walked by, all squawking and goofing off to make me want to get a picture of them.

Mural on the side of an art studio/performance stage. I used to go there but I think I'm not cool enough to anymore.

3 Muses: they strike me as very female-superior, but it seems they also host jazz performances. I'm almost interested enough to check it out.

A selection of odd little boutiques, overlooking the bike path that supplants 29th St.

Streetlight by the bikepath - those lines mean I'm far above the path, looking down as it stretches on.

What kind of society is this, where wood-carved bears are driven to suck off wood-carved foxes for money... Thanks for everything, President Bush.

Heh, this car was all wrong. Headlights left on, one wheel jacked on the curb. I hate yuppies so much.

The Herkimer! Home of homebrews and strange little appetizers, and occasionally attractive staff!

Because you just can't have too many hats in your life.

Fun place to shop: theater companies donate their props and costumes here, so you can find some very unique vintage material.

Jungle Theater. Can you believe I've lived in this city for almost eight years and never been there? It's true.

Potpourri of Chinese/herbal/New Age/feel good/(insert sense here)therapy merchandise. Living natural, simply, and healthy isn't cheap, friend.

What the hell is it with Uptown and Breakfast At Tiffany's!? Did Audrey Hepburn donate a few million to develop half a dozen blocks!? Her picture is everywhere here!

Bill's Imported Foods. Mediterranean/Middle Eastern supply shop for foods, condiments, even clothing. You can find some fun, interesting stuff here, and it'll be authentic!

Bryant Lake Bowl. All the yuppies in here were resentful my camera wasn't pointed at them.

Uh-oh! Some jackoff parked his car right beside the meters, instead of in front or behind, and Officer Vigilant is ticketing the scofflaw! Screw you, taxpayer!
