And here, I've collected a stockpile of spurious and dubious email hoaxes and scams centered around people in other countries hitting everyone up for money. They're pretty asinine, assuming that everyone will believe this email is directed to them personally. I can just picture some lonely couple in the middle of Nebraska, marveling with awe that their email address was on an international directory somewhere, and the son of an assassinated prince in Cote Du Jour, Africa, is personally soliciting them to share ungodly amounts of money with them. I wish I hadn't deleted the earlier ones I'd received, but I've probably received them again anyway.
Some of these are relatively new, like the ghoulish one that capitalizes upon the 9/11 tragedy; some have been floating around for gods know how long. They're usually "ripped from today's headlines", in that they refer to global political events to lend an air of credibility to their stories. I find them all really interesting reads - laughable, but interesting - so I started collecting them and am posting them here (in a very tedious, meticulous manner) for perusal, including full headers. You too can boggle in the fact that the "stepson and personal aide to the late General Robert Guei" in the Ivory Coast uses a simple Netscape email account. You can marvel at how many of these seem to come from Nigeria, in fact, two claim to be relatives of the same dead general. And Angola is so sure that Americans have been breathlessly reading the developments of their country that they can glibly produce relative after relative of whatever murdered rebel leader, confident that it will mean so much to Americans.
By the way, I have preserved the grievous typos and format errors (only occasionally correcting punctuation in a minor way), just for posterity's sake. Also, I had to replace some < and > symbols with parentheses so that their contents could be read, rather than the browser thinking it's just bad code.
